Frequently Asked Questions

The weather safety app for 2-wheelers

What is Ride / Don't Ride?

Ride / Don't Ride helps motorcyclists and cyclists decide whether it's safe to ride based on weather along your route. Enter your start and destination, when you're leaving (and returning, if it's a round trip), and how long each leg takes. The app shows you conditions at departure and arrival, plus an overall safety assessment so you can make an informed choice.

How do I check the weather for my journey?

Type your start location and destination in the search boxes, set your leaving time (and returning time if it's a round trip), and enter your journey duration in minutes for each leg. Tap Check Weather Conditions. You'll see temperature, road temp, wind, conditions, and a safety level (e.g. No Obvious Concerns, Take Note, or Caution) for the relevant times.

What does one-way vs return trip mean?

Use the arrow icon in the top bar to switch mode. Return trip (single arrow) is the default: you get a forecast for both outbound and return legs. One-way (double arrow) is for journeys where you only care about the outward leg (e.g. someone is giving you a lift back). The app remembers your choice for next time.

How do I save my journey?

Sign in with Google, then after checking the weather click Save to Cloud. Give the journey a name (e.g. "Work commute"), optionally choose which days you travel, and save. Saved journeys appear in the Saved Journeys section so you can quickly re-check the same route and set up email notifications.

How do notifications work?

From Saved Journeys, open Notifications (bell icon). You can set up to two notification times per journey (e.g. 9pm the night before and 6am on the day). We send an email at those times with the latest forecast for that journey so you can decide whether to ride. Times are on the hour and use your chosen timezone.

Example setup

Notification time 1: 21:00 (night before)

Notification time 2: 06:00 (morning of)

What do the safety levels mean?

No Obvious Concerns – conditions are within typical safe ranges for two wheels. Take Note – something to be aware of (e.g. moderate wind, cooler temps). Caution – conditions that could be dangerous (e.g. ice risk, heavy rain, strong winds). The app explains the main reason (e.g. "moderate rain"). You always see the raw data (temps, wind, conditions) so you can make your own call.

Can I use the app without signing in?

Yes. You can check the weather for any route without an account. Signing in is only needed to save journeys, set up notifications, and use the journey calendar to record whether you rode and how accurate the forecast was.

What is the journey calendar / "Did you ride"?

When you're signed in and open a saved journey, you can open the calendar view. For each day you can say whether you rode (Yes/No). This helps you track your trips and, over time, compare the forecast we gave you with what actually happened. Your feedback can help improve how we present safety information.

Is my data private?

We store your saved journeys, notification preferences, and any ratings you give (e.g. "did you ride") so the app works across devices and over time. We don't sell your data. Sign-in uses Google; we only receive the profile info you allow (e.g. email, name, picture) to identify your account. For more detail, get in touch.

Your data is stored securely and never sold.

How can I add the app to my home screen?

On mobile, open Ride / Don't Ride in your browser, then use your browser's menu (e.g. "Add to Home Screen" or "Install app"). On desktop, look for an install or shortcut option in the address bar or app menu. That gives you a quick launcher like an app.

Use “Add to Home Screen” or “Install app” in your browser menu.

Who is the app for?

Anyone on two wheels – commuters, leisure riders, motorcyclists and cyclists. The guidance is based on general safety thresholds (e.g. ice risk, wind, rain). You remain responsible for your own decision to ride; we only provide information to help you decide.
